My interests in literacies, media, and science often shape and are shaped by my passions outside of work. Some of these interests are blogging (about films, media, literacy, science, and research), photography or visual play (more like a visual monologue), and cinema (watching and discussing cinema).

Here are the links to these interests:

What does my name mean?

Rohit (Hindi: रोहित, pronounced [ˈroːɦɪt̪] or /roh-hit/. Also check out this link for the American pronunciation of my name. The actual pronunciation has a softer ‘t’)

The word ‘Rohit,’ at its root, signifies the color red. The color red is implicit. It is derived from Sanskrit, it means the ‘First rays of the sun.’ The early morning sunlight usually has a lot of reddish tint.

It is also said to be derived from the Sanskrit word Rohitah (रोहित:) which signifies a red colored deer – a form that Brahma once took. Rohit is also one of the names of the Hindu God Vishnu, when he is said to have first arrived on earth as a beautiful red fish.

Rohit also means a person, who leads to growth and development of his family (a commonly held belief in Hindu families), and was also the name of one of Krishna’s sons.

So, there you go. Pick one. I don’t advocate any.
